Game Premise
Jun. 24th, 2013 09:27 pmThe basics are as follows
{ Just like in Corpse Party, your character will be pulled from their world from whatever time you choose and they will find themselves in the cursed halls of Heavenly Host Elementary; a dilapidated structure of Japanese design with gaping holes in the floors, upturned desks and a number of age-worn items. From a cursory examination, it's clear that the building hasn't been used for a great number of years, having accumulated a lot of dust, rust and general wear and tear, beyond the obvious structure collapses.
Upon initial exploration, your characters will notice a number of interesting things. There will be a great number of places they simply cannot go. The windows to the outside appear as if they are mere decorations that were never meant to be moved. A number of the halls will be blocked by gaping holes in the floor that are simply too wide to jump. And there are a number of rooms from classrooms to more useful places like the Infirmary which require a key to enter. Other obstacles such as doors that have been nailed shut will also be encountered. But as the characters explore, they will have the opportunity to find items that will help them progress in their search of the school.
There will also be events where the characters encounter strange earthquakes - after which they will leave the place that they were in only to find that the structure of the building has changed. This can also lead to finding new objects and new paths. Events can effect the entire group, or they can only affect a number of people traveling together. In the event of the later, there will be a split and the affected characters will enter a new area of the school, but they will be cut off in a separate dimension away from the group until the dimensions re-align.
This is a Dangan Ronpa style murder game, which means that each week incentives will be offered by Sachiko herself in order to promote murder among the living. The goal is to successfully murder one of your fellow victims without getting caught. Doing so will guarantee you get your reward. However, the remaining victims will all have an opportunity to investigate and try to uncover the murderer. After a period of deliberation, they will cast their votes for who they believe the murderer is. The person who receives the highest number of votes will be killed whether they are the true murderer or not.
But the only way to escape is to beat Sachiko at her own game. Then again... how-- or even if that can be done is not something the characters can know from the outset.
What is the role of the dead in this game?
{ We strongly encourage the death of characters in this game. Fear not, because death is far from the end for characters in Heavenly Host Elementary. It is a new beginning. The beginning of their life as a spirit haunting the halls.
Depending on their death and the character's own disposition, they can turn out on of two ways - as a helpful spirit, who can offer hints and guidance to the living or as a vengeful spirit who can't cope with their death and tries to mislead or bring harm to the living.
Helpful spirits will be given opportunities to uncover bits of information the living might not be able to and pass it along as well as chances to help unlock areas for them.
Vengeful spirits may interfere with the helpful spirits and may be given opportunities to try and harm or sabotage the living.
Certain characters may begin the game as ghosts-- others will join them as they die throughout the course of the game. Whether the majority of those people become helpful or vengeful may shape the outcome of the game.
What is the darkening and what does it do?
{ The Darkening is the effect of Heavenly Host on it's living inhabitants. If your character is weakened by the horrors of Heavenly Host or already had a weak constitution, it's possible that the more they see and do in this cursed place will slowly drive them into a strange kind of madness. Strong feelings and desires are warped into hideous versions of themselves to a point where people affected by it become a danger to all those around them.
At first, the effects are barely noticeable. You might find them saying things they normally wouldn't to people they care about - being more negative or sharp with their words - nothing you wouldn't expect out of someone who's been put in such a horrifying situation. But slowly it gets worse, to the point where you might see them fighting with others over petty things; unable to control their own feelings. Even if they wanted to apologize at this point, they would find themselves unable. And it just gets worse until their character is completely warped to the point that they even go so far as to kill the person most important to them.
Those with strength of heart and strength of character are better equipped to fight such effects, but anyone is susceptible. Some may experience first stage effects, but never progress beyond there. Events that have a strong impact on characters are likely to affect this.
